Inspection & Sampling Plan

Inspections

We offer (4) different inspection options on the Inspection & Notes/Drawings tab in the quoting platform. All machined and sheet metal parts will receive a standard inspection included in the part price and lead time. All inspection options with example dimensional inspection reports are described below.

Standard: QC will verify that the part material, features, and finish are in accordance with the part requirements specified in the quote, CAD file, and/or print. If no dimensional print is provided with a part, QC measures to Xometry's Manufacturing Standards on dimensions they deem critical, such as overall size, holes, and depths. The inspection will be in-process. Documentation will not be shipped with your parts.

Standard With Dimensional Report: QC will perform an in-house inspection using calibrated tools where 100% of all dimensions, attributes, dimensional locations and print notes will be documented for at least 1 piece. A dimensional inspection report with a correlated ballooned print will be shipped with your part(s). A customer-supplied dimensional print is required for this inspection. Figure 1 shows an example of a Xometry dimensional inspection report with a correlated ballooned print.

CMM Inspection With Dimensional Report: QC will perform an in-house inspection using a Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) where 100% of all dimensions, attributes, dimensional locations and print notes will be documented for at least 1 piece. A CMM dimensional report with a correlated ballooned print will be shipped with your part(s). A customer-supplied dimensional print is required for this inspection. Figure 2 shows an example of a Xometry dimensional inspection report.

Custom: Choose this option if your part requires custom inspection requirements such as, but not limited to, the following: First Article Inspections (per AS9102), Non-Destructive Testing, Serialization, Source Inspection, Custom Sampling Plan, or if you would like to provide your own inspection datasheet.

3D printed parts do not receive full measurement inspection due to natural deviations that occur within the process. Please consult Xometry's Design Guides for a better understanding of each process and expected outcomes. Some materials, such as SLS, may have accessible holes drilled open to the CAD model before shipping.

Sampling Plan

Our acceptance sampling approach is per ASQC Z1.4 2008 Level II with zero rejects unless otherwise specified. If there are less than 13 pieces then they will all be inspected (100%). If over 13 pieces our inspection team may use a lookup table to determine the appropriate sample size to inspect. Inspecting more than the standard sample size for this approach is up to the inspector's discretion.

Non-Conformance & Rejected Parts

Rejected or non-conformance parts are logged and communicated on a case-by-case basis. Xometry's team will communicate any known non-conformance with the customer to determine the course of action if there is potential disruption to project needs or an estimated ship date. Non-conformance or RMA requests should be documented with the Order ID, part ID, quantity, and detailed description and sent to support@xometry.com.
